  • 10/13 Creating a Psychologically Safe Work Environment

TODAY - Creating a psychologically safe work environment:

In our highly demanding, rapidly changing and uncertain work environments, it is more important than ever that people are given the opportunities and supports to learn and grow. And yet, despite lots of talk about needing to develop a learning culture, what exactly would this look like and how might we go about building such a culture? This session aims to provide insights into one element of a positive learning culture – psychological safety (i.e., feeling safe to take risks, make mistakes and learn). Specifically, we will focus on defining this construct, as well as some of the organizational conditions and leadership actions that help or hinder its development.

Presenter(s): Dr. Jennie Weiner, Associate Professor of Educational Leadership at the Neag School of Education.
Bio: Dr. Weiner’s scholarship focuses on issues of leadership and organizational change, including the impact of gender and racial discrimination in educational leadership.
