In Memoriam

  • Passing of UConn Student, Kevin Mulumba

We write today with the difficult news that the University has lost a valued member of our community. Kevin Mulumba, a senior from Middletown, CT passed away unexpectedly on August 12, 2021 while visiting friends in Canada.

Kevin began his UConn career in the fall of 2017 in the ACES/Exploratory program. He aspired to be an Engineer and declared Civil Engineering as his major and was expected to complete his degree in December 2021.  Kevin was a member of the Student Support Services program and friends describe him as a kindhearted, genuine person who loved soccer and was a devoted friend. At UConn Kevin was the Academic Excellence Chair of the National Society of Black Engineers.

At this time service information for Kevin is not available. Condolences to the Mulumba family can be sent to the Dean of Students Office, 233 Glenbrook Road, Unit-4062, Storrs, Connecticut 06269-4062.

This is a difficult time for the University as we navigate the many emotions people have after experiencing the loss of another community member. In addition to the sadness of this immediate incident, we are aware that tragedy may trigger our own personal histories of loss and grief. Staff and faculty are encouraged to reach out to UConn’s Employee Assistance Program if they are in need of support.

This is a difficult time for UConn and for the Mulumba family.  Our deepest sympathy goes out to the Kevin’s family and friends during this time of loss.
