Faculty and Staff:
Due to the unforeseen weather cancellations this Spring semester the University is providing some additional make-up days for missed classes. In addition to the already scheduled day of Saturday March 29th the added make up days will be as follows: Saturday March 8th, Friday March 28th, Friday April 11th, and Saturday April 26th. For the complete Spring 2014 academic calendar please refer to the Registrar’s Office website: http://www.registrar.uconn.edu/calendar_spring_14.htm.
When scheduling a make-up time please check with the Office of the Registrar's Scheduling department, 486-3329, to avoid conflict and ensure space availability. If you are at a regional campus, please check with representatives from your campus Registrar staff. Please note that if you plan on extending your class time check with the Office of the Registrar to avoid conflicts with other courses.
Below, for your reference, you will find the by-law regarding approaches faculty can utilize to complete course objectives when the University closes for inclement weather or other emergency closings. If you are looking to address your class make-ups by using technology and other not in person alternatives and need assistance please contact the Institute for Teaching and Learning, 486-2686, and someone can assist you.
By-Law (II.E.11):
In the event that the University is closed due to inclement weather or other emergency on a regularly scheduled class day, instructors are expected to make reasonable attempts to complete all stated course learning objectives by the last day of classes. Approaches that an instructor may use to ensure the completion of all stated course learning objectives include, but are not limited to:
a. Scheduling class make up on the “Emergency Closing Make Up Date(s)” designated by the Registrar’s Office in the University Calendar.
b. Scheduling class make up at other times
c. Extending class times
d. Using educational technology and other not in-person alternatives.
In all situations in which stated course objectives would be completed outside of the regularly scheduled class time, it is essential that instructors should be sensitive to students’ inability to attend these alternative class times due to unavoidable conflicts such as, but not limited to, religious observances and other previously scheduled University obligations. Reasonable accommodation should be offered to students with such conflicts.
Please contact the Office of the Registrar at the number below (or via email at registrar@uconn.edu) with questions. Thank you and have a great day!
