Getting Started with Polling

Polling allows the instructors to ask questions, receive responses from students, and share summary results quickly during the class. It can be facilitated in many online/mobile softwares using phones, computers, and i-Clickers. Using polling effectively can bring active and dynamic learning to the classroom, especially beneficial for hybrid/blended classrooms, multicultural classrooms, or large, in-person courses. It can help instructors to know when students need more time or are ready to move on by asking quick check in questions. Meanwhile, it is a good formative assessment that helps students learn by engaging in the live class.
In this workshop, we will introduce common approaches to facilitate the polling and construct good questions. Then, we will discuss its value as a formative assessment to help teaching and learning. Finally, we will provide resources of UConn supportive polling tools (WebEx, Collaborate, Teams, Slido, Polling Everywhere, and i-Clicker) and tutorials.
