The Office of the Vice President for Research is pleased to announce that proposal proofreading services are now available through our Research Development Services unit. This service may be requested on a first-come, first-served basis by all UConn/UConn Health faculty who have grant proposals ready to submit 1-2 weeks ahead of SPS’s 5 day proposal submission deadline.
Requests for proofreading service can be made through the OVPR-RDS Request Portal.
To be eligible for proofreading service, materials must be part of an upcoming grant submission (services for other kinds of documents or manuscripts are not available) and be in a final, ready-to-submit form. OVPR-RDS proofreaders will review the document(s) for typos, spelling, grammar, and clarity to give proposals a “final polish” before submission. Any changes will be made using track-changes (or equivalent) so that the PI has full control over the final copy.
Our RDS team is very excited to offer this service as yet another way to support faculty pursuing external funding for their research, scholarship, and creative works!
As a reminder, in addition to proofreading, OVPR-RDS also offers the following services to faculty who are preparing or considering grant submissions:
- Consultation with an RDS team member to discuss funding opportunities and how they fit with faculty projects
- Brief review of an early proposal draft—a basic review of early work to make sure a proposal is heading in the right direction for a particular funder
- In-depth review of a completed draft—a full review of a mature proposal with an eye towards funder requirements, logical flow of the narrative, and grantwriting best practices.
- Proposal Development Support for Mid-scale ($1M+) and Large/Complex ($5M+) proposals—the RDS team provides project management / coordination support for teams tackling larger and more complex proposals, as well as writing/editing/review support.
- Grant Review or Revision by Hanover Research—The grantwriting consultants at Hanover Research have expertise that augments and extends the capacity of our RDS team. They provide training webinars for the OVPR, and we call on them to assist with proposals when extra support or an outside perspective is needed.
Note: for scheduling purposes, services must be requested in advance; we also recommend allowing ample time between service dates and submission deadlines for incorporating feedback. Please note that capacity is limited for these services and all requests may not be fulfilled.
More information about all of these services is available on our website, and if you have any questions, please reach out to the team (Bethany Javidi, Matt Mroz, and Caitlin O’Connell) at OVPR-RDS@uconn.edu.
Once again, requests can be made through the OVPR-RDS Request Portal.
The OVPR-RDS Team is looking forward to working with you!
