I am pleased to announce the appointment of Joseph (Joe) Thompson to the position of Associate Vice President University Business Services and Chief Procurement Officer effective July 16, 2021. In this role, Joe will lead our effort to elevate the University’s procurement and business services functions to implement unsurpassed customer service practices in support of all units of the University, while ensuring compliance and delivering value.
Joe joins the University with more than 35 years of procurement experience in global strategic sourcing, supplier relationship management, procure to pay process tools and process improvement in highly diverse organizations in the US, Europe, Latin America and Asia. Most recently Joe was the Chief Procurement Officer with Bloomberg, LP. Joe got his start in the procurement world working for MARS Inc in various capacities and locations and finished in 2006 as the Vice President – Chief Procurement Officer for MAR’s Inc European region based in London UK. With a desire to move back to the states, Joe accepted a position with Avon Products as the Group Vice President and Chief Procurement Officer and was accountable for $6 billion in expenditures in 64 countries and led a team of over 400 associates.
Joe is a Brown University graduate and completed the prestigious London Business School’s Corporate Finance Programme and Senior Executive Programme.
