Research, Funding, and Awards

  • 5/3 START Prelim Proof of Concept Fund Final Cycle

UConn’s Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) would like to remind interested, eligible faculty at UConn/UConn Health, of the upcoming deadline for the next cycle (Q4 for FY21) of the START Preliminary Proof-of-Concept Fund.  Please note that this is the final cycle of START under the initial three-year grant provided by CTNext.  While we are seeking renewal of this program for the future, no additional competitions are currently scheduled for 2021.

Through a generous grant provided by the CT Next Higher Education Fund, the University of Connecticut is administering a new early stage translational research funding program called the START Preliminary Proof-Of-Concept (PPOC) Fund. Under the grant, funding will be made available to investigators at Central Connecticut State University (CCSU), Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU), University of Bridgeport (UB) and UConn/UConn Health.

The program aims to support the preliminary validation of innovative early stage technologies that have possible commercial potential and is designed to bring those technologies to a stage that may be more attractive for additional later stage translational funding support. We invite proposals for the START PPOC Fund from across all disciplines for early stage projects that may one day result in inventions and technologies that address unmet needs and have potential for commercial application.  Awards of up to $10K per project will be made.

Proposals due Monday, 5/3/2021 by 12PM via the UConn Quest Portal for UConn/UConn Health Faculty Members
