After nearly 15 years at the University of Connecticut, Sharon Mendes will be retiring as of March 1, 2021. Sharon spent her entire tenure at UConn in the Academic Center for Exploratory Students (ACES). She began her career at UConn as an academic advisor in ACES but quickly demonstrated herself as a leader and mentor for other advisors, becoming an Assistant Director of ACES. Her collaborative leadership style allowed her to build a student-centric and team-based environment while supervising professional staff and graduate students. She also managed outreach to prospective students and families through her partnerships with Enrollment Management and New Student Orientation.
In addition to being a critical member of the ACES team, Sharon always demonstrated her commitment to students through her collaborations with other departments and initiatives across the University. She took a lead role in the Individualized Major Program, Suicide Prevention Week, and many other mental health initiatives over the years.
We wish Sharon all the best in her new adventures. Her efforts and energy will be greatly missed.
