What is an Authentic Learning Experience? Service learning, authentic audiences, activism, and More!
    Friday, March 5, 1:00 - 2:15
    Online
Presenters: Julia Yakovich, CETL; Khalilah Arrington, Ed. Psychology; and Tina Huey, CETL-Faculty Development

Teaching talks are interactive sessions where you can meet other instructors to discuss a particular theme or topic related to teaching, mentoring, and course design. Unlike webinars, teaching talks are heavily shaped by participation, though they are facilitated by CETL staff and faculty affiliates who offer tools, resources, and prompts for reflection and discussion.

The theme of this teaching talk is authentic learning experiences. Some topics we may consider include:

    • How do we encourage and support students' agency in the worlds our courses describe?
    • What does research tell us about the pedagogical value of activism and taking action?
    • Service learning and power dynamics
    • Authentic writing assignments
    • Topics and ideas of interest to participants
