  • Seeking Human Subjects for Microbiome Research

    Older Adults and Microbiome Research Study

    The UConn Center on Aging is teaming up with Jackson Laboratory to study the gut, skin, and oral microbiomes of older adults

    To Be Eligible:

    • Men and Women must be 80 years old or older
    • Available to come to UConn Health Center on Aging once a month for a total of 6 study visits (total study time=6 months)
    • Exclusions:
      • Use of antibiotics within the past month
      • Gastrointestinal/digestive distress or intestinal bleeding in the last month
      • Terminal illness (palliative or hospice care)

    We will ask you to come in for six study visits to answer questions about your health history, diet, and oral health, and we will collect mouth and skin swabs, and ask for a Stool sample. Volunteers who complete the study will be reimbursed up to $175 for their participation. 

    This Study is being conducted under the direction of Dr. Julie Robison, Dr. George Kuchel, & Dr. Julia Oh.
