Student Activities

  • 12/21 ISSS Winter Book Club For Students

Come join us to read and discuss three short stories over winter break. We will be reading three short stories from The Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri.  All meetings will take place from 2:00-3:00. You can join one, two or all of the meetings. Please read the story before the meeting and be prepared to discuss. This is a fun way to pass the time over break, “see” people, and enjoy some pleasure reading.

    • Monday, December 21- Interpreter of Maladies
    • Monday, December 28- Mrs. Sen’s
    • Monday January 4- This Blessed House

The book is available from the UConn library here. You can also visit your local library to get a copy. If you are not able to find the book, please contact Sarah at Sarah.manning@uconn.edu.

Description: Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for fiction, this stunning debut collection unerring charts the emotional journeys of characters seeking love beyond the barriers of nations and generations. In stories that travel from India to America and back again, Lahiri speaks with universal eloquence to everyone who has ever felt like a foreigner.
