Most of the University of Connecticut’s financial aid programs that serve to recruit and support exceptional graduate students target doctoral students. There is only one program targeted exclusively for outstanding students in terminal master’s degree tracks. It is called the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) for Out-of-State Master’s Students.
This program provides the differential between the in-state tuition of terminal-masters (MFA, MS, MA) and out-of-state tuition. The specific criteria for these grants include:
- Full-time matriculation in one of the University’s master’s degree programs which ordinarily does not lead to a doctorate in North American universities;
- Absence of graduate assistantship support, which carries with it a tuition waiver;
- Out-of-state residency status;
- Evidence of academic excellence (based on grade point averages, GRE/GMAT scores, etc.);
- U.S.citizen or permanent resident.
Each student chosen for participation in this program will be eligible for a maximum of four semesters of support.
To nominate an applicant for one of these awards, please send a copy of his or her transcripts, GRE/GMAT or other standardized test scores, and a short statement outlining the special characteristics that qualify the applicant for consideration to Kelly Jones at kelly.jones@uconn.edu or Unit 1152.
Since a rapid response will be crucial if we are to attract these students, we will begin making awards on or shortly after February 14, 2014. The academic quality of the candidate is the prime criterion for an award, but we will also do our best to balance the awards across the various programs that participate.
