REQUEST FOR PILOT STUDY PROPOSALS
UCONN ALCOHOL RESEARCH CENTER
The Center for the Study of the Etiology and Treatment of Alcohol Dependence—also known as the UConn Alcohol Research Center (ARC)--is pleased to announce the availability of funds to support 1-2 pilot studies. At this time, we are inviting the submission of brief letters of intent. Letters will be screened for consistency with the mission statement presented below. At a later time, a subset of applicants will be invited to submit 3-5 page proposals for a more thorough review.
The goal of this program is not to support student research projects. Instead, there is an expectation that the project will be led by a UConn faculty member and be of sufficient scientific significance as to form the basis for a future, larger project that could be supported by the ARC or an NIH R01 award. Responsive applications should propose research “…related to adolescent addiction with a focus on the treatment and control of substance addiction and cravings, including without limitation, those related to opiates, benzodiazepines, marijuana, alcohol, and other addictive drugs”. Although not a requirement, applications focused on benzodiazepine abuse and craving are preferred. We are inviting both basic science and clinical/observational study proposals.
The letter of intent should be no longer than 500 words. It should highlight the project’s significance, innovation, and relevance to the pilot study program’s goals. A brief description of the methods should also be included. There is no need to present a data analysis plan unless it is essential for understanding the goals. There is also no need to present a power analysis.
The fund for this pilot study program is $80,000. Indirect costs and faculty salaries will not be supported. Studies may be 1-2 years in duration.
The submission deadline for letters of intent is November 15, 2020.
