  • 10/5 - Shuttle Service Changes, Storrs

The demand for commuter student parking and our on-campus transit service is extraordinarily low this year.

In fact, ridership on our shuttles is down 82% from last year, with the HuskyGo system averaging just three passengers per quarter-hour on its buses.

These data strongly support our need to reduce service in the following ways:

    1. Discontinue Green Line, Purple Line, and Parking Express service.
    2. Reduce the existing 3-bus service on Yellow and Red lines to two-bus service (20-minute frequency)
    3. End Red, Blue, Orange, and Yellow service at 10:00 p.m. and run Campus Loop 1 & 2 from 10:00 p.m. - midnight.
    4. End Saturday service at midnight.
    5. Convert Depot Line service to On-Demand

These shuttle service changes will allow us to realize an academic year's carbon reduction of 710 metric tons and $250,000 in financial savings.

Of course, we will continue to follow the Center for Disease Control's (CDC's) physical distancing guidelines following these changes.

The discontinuation of Green Line service requires the provision of Lot C permit holders' parking privileges to a location in which shuttle service remains available.

Therefore, starting on Monday, October 5th, Lot C permit holders are authorized to park within the eastern section of Lot F (map).

You will find that Lot F is closer to the central campus and receives Silver Line shuttle service (map).

The service changes are scheduled to start on Monday, October 5th.

Thank you for your cooperation as we continue to adapt to on-campus life during a pandemic.
