Dear UConn Community,
UConn's American English Language Institute (UCAELI) will be offering Language Support courses in the Fall 2020 semester. Language Support courses are designed for international UConn students who have at least an intermediate level of English proficiency. Courses meet twice a week for a total of 3 hours for 6 weeks. These courses are open to any active UConn student with a Peoplesoft number including: UCAELI Students, Graduate students, Undergraduates, and Non-Credit.
Focus on Pronunciation
- Days: Monday/Wednesday
- Dates: October 14 – November 18, 2020
- Time: 8:00am – 9:30am
- Fee: $250
- Location: Online
In this course, participants will develop skills and strategies to work on their pronunciation both in and out of class. The goal is not to eliminate a foreign accent, but instead to help participants develop a command of spoken English that enables them to convey and understand intended meanings and attitudes. Individual sounds, sound combinations, stress, vowel reduction, linking, rhythm, intonation, focus, pauses, and conversational speech will be addressed. Content can be adapted to suit the groups’ needs.
