Hello Everyone!
The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) is hosting Dr. Craig Nordeen for a lecture on Rotating Detonation Engines (RDEs) virtually via WebEx!
Join us on Thursday, October 1st at 7:00 pm EST (4:00 PT), for the lecture.
Dr. Craig Nordeen, a UConn Alumni, is a mechanical engineer with 30 years of experience in advanced design of jet engines and engine components at United Technologies. He graduated in 2013 with a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Connecticut. His dissertation is "Thermodynamics of a Rotating Detonation Engine." He currently pursues research as a consultant under the name of New Cycle Engineering LLC.
A rotating detonation engine (RDE) is a form of pressure gain combustion and is an unsteady detonation-based engine. The RDE exploits continuous detonative combustion in a thin annular channel that expands at supersonic speed, and has been shown theoretically to be more efficient than conventional deflagrative combustion. Detonation-based research has expanded internationally, with RDE research at the forefront. Dr. Craig Nordeen will be speaking on this emerging advancement in the unsteady engine sphere.
