  • Introducing Ed Abroad MAPs for Academic Majors

Students, advisors and faculty will now have a resource Major/Minor Advising Page (MAP) for individual academic majors/minors to navigate unique program selection for Education Abroad. Created in collaboration with academic advisors and Education Abroad staff, MAPs provide suggested programs suited to academic interest representing diverse regions of the world, various program structures, and descriptions highlighting major specific attributes. MAPs feature scholarships, resources and contacts, as well as academic opportunities suited to the plan of study. The project is a reflection of the advising process Education Abroad uses in helping students to identify academic, personal and pre-professional goals, when determining the best choice for a semester (or multiple semesters) abroad. Students can use the MAP knowing their academic advisors are working in collaboration with Education Abroad to highlight programs, opportunities to explore academics outside our campuses, and to support requirements for graduation.

Education Abroad has completed the first phase of MAPs to include a handful of popular majors, which are accessible on the academic page of the Education Abroad website. A second phase is already underway to continue representing all academic majors/minors, including Individualized and MAPs geared towards exploratory students working with ACES. For academic departments who have not already been in contact with Education Abroad, the opportunity to collaborate on this initiative is welcomed. Collaborative Advising sessions are also a great addition to the planning process for students. For more information, contact Education Abroad at abroad@uconn.edu.
