Research, Funding, and Awards

  • USDA Funding Opportunity - WIC Nutrition Education

The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) plays a central role in the continuing success and development of the faculty’s research, scholarship, and creative endeavors through its leadership and support services in Research Administration and Research Development.  A critical mechanism for cultivating research development and enhancing research capacity is to foster interdisciplinary collaborations with diverse academic partners and institutions.  To this end, the OVPR will be conducting an internal screening process in support of the USDA Center for Collaboration Research on WIC Nutrition Education Innovations.

USDA Center for Collaborative Research on WIC Nutrition Education Innovations

The USDA Center for Collaborative Research on WIC Nutrition Education Innovations at the CNRC, in collaboration with the USDA Food and Nutrition Service, will fund researcher-initiated, innovative WIC nutrition education projects.

WIC provides nutritious foods, nutrition education (including breastfeeding promotion and support), and referrals to health and other social services to participants at no charge. WIC serves low-income pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, and infants and children up to age 5 who are at nutrition risk. The funded projects will test creative approaches to WIC nutrition education. Examples of issues that may be explored include, but are not limited to:

    • Identification of innovative, effective models of nutrition education to improve short- and long-term food and nutrition behavior among WIC participants,
    • Innovative uses of technology and digital media to achieve desired outcomes,
    • Innovative advances in communication and coordination among WIC staff, WIC participants, physicians and child care providers to enhance existing WIC nutrition education programs and improve target behaviors.
