The Beyond the Field series seeks to create open dialogue around difficult issues as they intersect with sports. Join us for an evening with Mahmoud Abdul Rauf, former professional basketball player, as he explore his personal experiences with the intersections of faith, athletics, and standing up for what you believe in. This event seeks to answer the questions What's the difference between now and the 1970s? What does he think about Colin Kaepernick's resistance? Would he kneel during the anthem today? What's it like being muslim and African American during the Trump Era?
Brought to you by UConn's SUBOG, Beyond the Field, H. Fred Simons African American Cultural Center, Center for Student with Disabilities, Salaam, and the Asian American Cultural Center.
Doors open at 6pm and speaking begins at 6:25pm. Hope to see you there!
