  • 4/5 Conference on the Teaching of Writing, Hartford

FREE for UCONN Affiliates: Conference on the Teaching of Writing, Hartford Campus, April 5, 2019

We would like to invite university affiliates and all to the University of Connecticut First-Year Writing Program’s Fourteenth Annual Conference on the Teaching of Writing.  The conference theme is “Active and Accessible: Engaging Writing Pedagogy in the 21st Century” and it will feature keynote speaker Dr. Shannon Walters (Temple University).

Special Afternoon Workshop Event, “Writing with Community Partners”:  This year’s conference is held in partnership with the Trinity College (Hartford, CT) Office of Community Learning.  Our conference co-sponsors will be conducting a FREE 2.5-hour afternoon workshop that brings together faculty, students, and community partners to discuss strategies for projects that use writing to contribute to social change in your local community.

The 2019 Conference on the Teaching of Writing will take place at the University of Connecticut’s Hartford campus on Friday, April 5, 2019.  The conference will run from 9:00 AM-1:30 PM, with check-in and morning sessions taking place in the Hartford Times Building.  The lunch, keynote address, and poster session will take place across the street, in the Hartford Public Library.  The “Writing with Community Partners” workshop will run from 2:00-4:30 PM, also in the Hartford Public Library.

For further information about the conference, the conference theme, and the various events taking place, visit the FYW website.

REGISTRATION:  If you are able to attend, we ask that you register online here, even if you do not need to pay a registration fee.  Registration is FREE for UCONN affiliates and all students (including graduate students).  There is a $30 registration fee for non-student non-UCONN affiliates.  When you register, you will be given an opportunity to indicate your interest in participating in the special afternoon workshop.  On-site registration is $40.  We ask that registration is completed by next Friday, March 29th, but please continue to register up until the day of the conference.

We are excited about the presentations we have planned and hope that you can join us!
