    Dear Colleagues,

The University’s Code of Conduct states: “We believe all members of the University community are entitled to an environment that nurtures collegiality and mutual respect.”

In 2012 and again in 2017, the University supported a Workplace Climate Survey as part of the work of the Something’s Happening Committee (SHC).  The mission of the SHC is to advocate for continued efforts and resources that will create and maintain a respectful, civil, and ethical workplace community, particularly in the areas of policies, procedures, training, development, accountability and engagement.

The 2017 survey was sent to all employees at the Storrs, regional, and law school campuses via email, and paper versions were made available to those employees without regular access to computers.  Approximately 1,725 permanent employees took the survey, and the SHC completed a thorough and comprehensive analysis of the responses and submitted their report to me.  The report includes the results of the 2017 data, comparisons between the 2012 and 2017 results, and recommendations for continued enhancements.

The full report is available at respect.uconn.edu (Click the image of Wilbur Cross to the right of the page).

We are pleased to note that significant progress has been made on the recommendations from the first Workplace Climate Survey.  During this time of transition, we maintain our commitment to promoting civility in all aspects of the academic enterprise, including the workplace.  With that goal in mind, I encourage you to review the report and share your feedback with the committee at respect@uconn.edu.

Thank you to all who participated in this important activity.

    Susan Herbst
