Final Public Meetings Planned on CT Eastern Gateways Study

The Capitol Region Council of Governments (CRCOG) will hold the final three public meetings on a study of the Route 195 and Route 44 corridors in eastern Connecticut in late April and early May.

The purpose of the Eastern Gateways Study is to plan for future travel needs of these corridors in the towns of Bolton, Coventry, Tolland, and Mansfield. The study seeks to provide recommendations for a transportation network along the Route 44 and Route 195 corridors that is multimodal, efficient, and safe. There is also a focus on balancing local and regional needs for travel with key connections to destinations.

The study recognizes that these corridors are critical to serving the growing travel needs for the towns and region. At the same time, preserving and protecting the rural and historic character of the area is a very important value expressed in interviews with town representatives and by the public who were surveyed at earlier public events.

At the upcoming public meetings, the study team will share ideas that will improve mobility in the region for all travelers – pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists – and receive public input on these potential alternatives. Public meetings are scheduled on these dates:

    Thursday, April 26, 2018

Mansfield Town Council Chambers, 4 S. Eagleville Road, Mansfield, CT 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM with a presentation at 7:15 PM

    Wednesday, May 2, 2018

Tolland Town Council Chambers, 21 Tolland Green, Tolland, CT 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM with a presentation at 7:15 PM

    Thursday, May 3, 2018

Town Hall Annex, 1712 Main Street, Coventry, CT 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM with a presentation at 7:15 PM

Feedback from these public meetings will be used to inform the study’s Final Report. A draft of this report will be made available for public review before the conclusion of this study effort.

A Technical Advisory Committee with representatives from the four towns involved in the study, as well as UConn and the Connecticut Department of Transportation, is guiding this effort. Assisting CRCOG with the study is Hartford‐based planning firm Fitzgerald and Halliday, along with WSP and Providence design firm Ninigret Partners.
