Additional UConn Information

  • 1/27 UCAELI Conversation Partner Volunteers Needed

The University of Connecticut American English Language Institute (UCAELI) is currently looking for Conversation Partner Volunteers for the Spring semester!

    What do Conversation Partners do?

Conversation Partners play an important role in UCAELI students’ English education. Volunteers will be placed with a small group of UCAELI students who will have some questions or conversation strategy to practice. The discussions are related to something they are learning in their Communication Skills classes. Topics and activities vary from discussions about culture, current events, hobbies, academic subjects, and university life.

The commitment to being a Conversation Partner is flexible. We encourage volunteers to let UCAELI know their level of commitment so that teachers can plan lessons accordingly.

The one requirement of volunteers is to speak in English!

What do Conversation Partners get from the experience?

    • Learn about other cultures
    • Make new friends from all over the world
    • Help international students participate more fully in the UConn community
    • Gain experience in providing language feedback, explanations, and suggestions in a language learning classroom

What are the meeting days and times?

    • Every week on Fridays, 11:15am-12:15pm, starting 1/27/2023 - 5/5/2023

This is an in-person volunteer opportunity only (Storrs Campus). Volunteers are welcome to join one or more conversation meeting days.
