Those wishing to offer written comments about the UConn Police Department’s ability to meet the standards for accreditation are requested to write to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), 13575 Heathcore Boulevard, Suite 320, Gainesville, VA 20155.

The goal of accreditation is to have the UConn Police Department’s policies comply with CALEA standards and department policies for re-accreditation. Re-accreditation is for 4 years, during which time the agency must submit to annual electronic audits attesting to continued compliance with those standards under which it was initially accredited.

UConn Police initially obtained accreditation in March of 2001. The department was granted the Commission’s accreditation that year, a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence.
