  • Participants Wanted - Research Study

A paid research study is being conducted by the Korey Stringer Institute at the University of Connecticut to validate a body temperature alerting system using physiological responses that occur during rest, exercise in the heat and during body cooling.

We are seeking aerobically active males (4-5 days a week and ≥30 minutes duration per exercise session) who are 18-28 years old and may be interested in participation.

Data collection will consist of 6 total visits to the laboratory.

The study will be completed in the following timeline:

Visit 1: Baseline and VO2max Testing

Visit 2: Metabolic Heat Production Visit

    Visit 3-6: Trial 1, 2 ,3, 4

    • Participants who are approved to participate will be scheduled for a baseline and VO2max testing day. Basal metabolic rate (BMR) will be measured upon arrival during the baseline visit.
    • Participant numbers will be randomly assigned, and 4 trials (mist-fan, forearm, passive cooling, ice towel) will be ordered with a random number generator and assigned to a participant number.

Subjects will be compensated on a prorated basis dependent upon the amount of study visits completed. Full compensation will be provided to those who complete all 8 study visits.

Participants will be expected to complete approximately 12 hours of data collection over the 6 days of visits. This study was approved by UConn IRB, Protocol #H20-0168 under the advisement of Principal Investigator Dr. Douglas Casa.
