Rainbow Center @ SU403
Free and open to all
The Rainbow Center's Out to Lunch Lecture Series continues with a presentation by Fany Hannon, Graciela Quiñones-Rodríguez, and Jorge Castillo, entitled, "The Different Art Expressions of Latin@s in the LGBTQ Community."
Gloria Anzaldua, Frida Khalo, and Richard Blanco are just a few examples of how LGBTQ Latinos have used and continue using art to express feelings, voice opinions and open a path for all. This interactive, engaging, and creative workshop will explore the different art expressions (music, poetry, paint, dance) that have empowered our Latino Gays and Lesbians. Attendees will be encouraged to write and maybe dance "tango" at the same time.
Fany is the Director of the Puerto Rican/Latin American Cultural Center (PRLACC), and holds a Master’s Degree in Higher Education & Student Affairs from UConn.
Graciela is a clinician at UConn's Counseling and Mental Health Services, holding a Master's Degree in Social Work from UConn and is also Adjunct Faculty at UConn's School of Social Work and Capital Community College.
Jorge is a PhD candidate in the Department of Literatures, Cultures & Languages at UConn. He received his B.A. in 2003 from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas with a concentration in Hispanic Culture and Literature and Mexican American Studies. He completed his M.A. from UConn in 2007 and is working on his dissertation on sexualities and globalization in Caribbean cultural production.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their lunches.
