  • UCONN-GUEST Self-Provisioning Process Change

One of the most popular aspects of the new UCONN-GUEST wireless network is the ability for guests to self-provision logon credentials.  As you know, the credentials are valid for seven days and once they expired, the guest would have had to wait two-days before the system will allow a subsequent request for credentials.

Feedback received since UCONN-GUEST went live on March 12 is that the two-day waiting period affects the level of service provided to our guests.  For this reason, the two-day waiting period has been removed.

Network Engineering and the Information Security Office will continue to monitor the use of UCONN-GUEST and reserve the right to reassess the need for the two-day waiting period.*

    * NetID users (those with uconn.edu email addresses) should NOT be using the UCONN-GUEST network for their wireless needs.  UCONN-GUEST is not encrypted and, therefore, not secure.  NetID users should utilize UCONN-SECURE for wireless services.

We hope this change meets with your approval and that it will enhance your guests' experience here at the University.

    All our best,

The Network Engineering & Information Security Offices
