  • Recruiting Toddlers for the MEMORY Research Study

The CAP Lab in the Department of Psychological Sciences at the University of Connecticut is recruiting families for the MEMORY research study. In this research study, we are looking at how toddlers remember information from play experiences - for example, what happened, where it happened, and what came first. We think toddlers may remember more than they can easily show, and we are studying simple, play-based ways to measure that memory.

What does participating in the MEMORY research study involve?
We invite you and your child to visit us at UConn Waterbury or Storrs for a play-based research visit. During the visit, your child will:

®     Play simple toy games with a researcher (including a two-room hide-and-find / hiding game).

®     Do brief, kid-friendly toy activities (some activities may include copying simple actions with toys).

®     Parents/guardians complete a few short questionnaires during the visit.

Your child would complete one in-person visit that typically lasts about 30-60 minutes. And if you and your child are willing, we also have an optional second visit that would only last 20-40 minutes (scheduled based on your interest and availability). This is because we are interested in whether sleep affects toddlers' memory, because sleep is when a lot of memory storage happens. The second visit is completely optional, and choosing not to do the second visit will not affect participation in the first.

Your child will receive a certificate of participation, a small thank-you gift (for example, a book or small toy), and a one-time $20 cash payment at the end of the final visit.

How do I find out more about the MEMORY research study?
We would love the chance to talk with you! We are currently recruiting toddlers ages 24-35 months. Before scheduling, we complete a brief screening to confirm eligibility.

Contact us at (203) 236-9933 or kidCAPlab@uconn.edu to hear more details. Visit the CAP Lab MEMORY study webpage.

Agreeing to talk with us or submitting an interest form does not obligate you to participate.

Come and be a part of the CAP Lab’s science family!
