  • 11/17 UConn Symphony and Choirs Concert Tonight

At 8:00pm this evening, November 17th, 250 musicians from the UConn Symphony Orchestra, Concert Choir, Festival Chorus, and E.O. Smith High School Chamber Choir, with faculty soloists: Constance Rock, soprano and Mark Womack, baritone, will combine to present Ralph Vaughan Williams' introspective Serenade to Music and his monumental Symphony #1 "A Sea Symphony" in the Jorgensen Fine Arts Center. Renowned Vaughan WIlliams scholar, UConn faculty member, Alain Frogley will present a Pre-Concert Lecture at 7:15pm in Jorgensen Auditorium. Vaughan Williams set contemplative poetry by William Shakespeare and selections from Walt Whitman's celebrated Leaves of Grass that explores universal questions of human existence. The philosophical musings of the Serenade contrast with the evocative imagery in the Sea Symphony, and yet in each case, Vaughan Williams' music is consistently potent and beautiful. Don't miss this powerful musical event! Link to tickets.
