Training and Professional Development

  • Introducing: Asset Panda

Sent on behalf of the Office of the Controller and Logistics Administration:

The Inventory Control Unit and the Surplus Department are excited to offer a training opportunity for the Asset Panda application. Asset Panda is a free application that can be downloaded onto any Android or iOS (Apple) phone or tablet. Beginning June 5, 2017, it will be UConn’s new mechanism for the following functions:

    1. Surplusing equipment and other UConn property
    2. Cycling of Controllable Property by University departments

University-wide use of the Asset Panda application will significantly improve the tracking of University tagged assets from acquisition through final disposal, and will streamline the process of surplusing University property. Asset records in the Kuali Financial System and the KFDM Standard Reports for assets will get updated within 2 days of being scanned using Asset Panda.

Asset Panda has been used successfully by Inventory Control Specialists to scan and track capital equipment since December 2016. The Asset Panda application is user-friendly, and enables users to take and store pictures of assets.  Asset Panda will eliminate the ACT-39 (Transfer or Retirement of Equipment or Supplies) paper process since it can be used to surplus both tagged equipment and other supplies and property. The ACT-39 form will no longer be accepted by the Surplus Department after September 30, 2017.

Since the ACT-39 paper form will no longer be used, it is highly recommended that each department plan to download the Asset Panda application to your department’s mobile device (phone or tablet) for surplusing property and tracking Controllable Property. Any Android (4.1 and up) or iOS (8.0 or later) device is sufficient.*  Smaller departments may choose to share a device with another department, or a college/school business office.

All current KFS CAM (Capital Asset Management) Processors will be automatically granted access to Asset Panda, and other new users can request access by using the Asset Panda Access Request Form found on the Inventory Control website.

We highly recommend that anyone who will be using Asset Panda attend a hands-on training session. Please go to the Professional Development site to sign up for a class: UConn ProDev. Go to “Courses” and search for “Panda.”

We look forward to working with departmental staff as we transition to using Asset Panda for surplusing of all property and tracking of Controllable Property.

If you have any questions about the Asset Panda application, please contact Dave Ferriera at 860-486-0940. For questions relating to the new surplusing process, please call the Surplus Department at 860-486-3094.
