  • Vice Provost for Strategic Initiatives

    Dear Colleagues,

Professor Larry Silbart, Vice Provost for Strategic Initiatives, informed me recently that he has decided to step down from his position and return to the faculty of Allied Health Sciences effective July 1, 2017.

Professor Silbart joined the provost’s office in 2013 with a portfolio centered on initiatives related to the Academic Plan and Next Generation Connecticut.   During his time in the provost’s office he played a leading role in the academic plan internal grant proposal process that has distributed millions of dollars in support of the university’s research goals.   He led the Centers and Institutes Review committee, bringing rigor and stability to the regular process of review of those programs.  Most notably, he was at the center of the development of the Innovation Partnership Building (IPB), working with center directors in the School of Engineering and with the Institute for Materials Science to shape the program for that building.  As part of this project, he played a key role in securing several important industry partnerships including FEI and Zeiss, which brought a suite of high-end electron microscopes and other instrument platforms to UConn and the IPB.

Please join me in thanking Larry for his service to UConn and in wishing him the best as he returns to his research and teaching.

    Jeremy Teitelbaum
    Interim Provost
