Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning

    CETL Workshop

Providing an opportunity for faculty, graduate students, and professional staff to gather with colleagues to listen, discuss, comment, interact and reflect on a variety of topics to enhance teaching and learning.

The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning offers the following workshop:

    Technology to Assist Classroom Communication
Cynthia Deroma, CETL – Faculty Development Programs
    For international and domestic instructors
    “Assignment? What assignment?”
“I’m failing because I can’t understand my instructor.”
“You sent us an email?! We don’t do email!!!”
“I don’t even know who’s in my group.”
“I have no idea what we learned in class today.”
Miscommunication in a course can lead to missed opportunities and a lot of grievances. The causes can be related to differences in language, culture, age, or simply lack of interest. In this workshop we will explore ways technology can help bridge gaps in communication between instructors and students, and among students themselves, leading to higher levels of engagement with the course and consequently better learning. Strategies covered will include in-class communication, clickers, smartphone apps, online tools like Google Docs, HuskyCT, and social media.

    Tuesday, October 11th
    2:00-4:00pm
    HBL Collaborative Classroom
