  • Commencement, Move-Out Weekend Travel and Traffic

UConn is advising people to plan ahead if they will be driving on the Storrs campus in coming days for events, work, or to help their children or friends move out of the residence halls.

Almost 13,000 students live in UConn’s residence halls at Storrs, which will be emptying out this week as they complete final exams in preparation for Commencement Weekend.

Temporary modifications, including Alumni Drive to one-way traffic, will be in place Monday, May 2, through May 10. Detours will be posted, and parking will be allowed in the northbound lane, closest to the buildings, for loading of vehicles only.

The changes are necessary as students move out of the Hilltop Residence Halls while, at the same time, UConn accommodates construction of the new Next Gen Hall dorm nearby.

People who use Alumni Drive on a regular basis, and those who were considering using it as an entry point to campus for Commencement ceremonies, are asked to seek alternate routes to help reduce congestion.

Access to the UConn Alumni Center will only be available entering from the intersection of Alumni Drive and Hillside Road.

Traffic is expected to be heavy around all residence halls, particularly at week’s end.
