We would like to announce our upcoming Spring Exhibition, the second of our final 3 exhibitions at the Alexey von Schlippe Gallery of Art, located in the Branford House Mansion, on UConn’s Avery Point Campus in Groton, CT.
The exhibition runs from Saturday, April 23rd through Saturday, June 4th 2016.
There will be an Opening Reception on Friday, April 29th 6-8 PM.
The April 29th Reception is open to the public and will feature live music with the
Bill Morrison and Joe McWIlliams Jazz Duo.
The AvS Gallery is proud to present an exhibition featuring the outstanding work of these four artists:
Pamela Zagarenski of Stonington, CT exhibits her joyful, imaginative paintings that are so rich in the stories and characters she has created. Zagarenski is one of the most beloved artists of this region. We are so fortunate to have her return to the AvS Gallery in one of our final exhibitions. She states: “I go into a painting bringing along a seeing guide like an elephant or a lion and together we disappear into depths of the night. During the journey a story takes form. Like a dream it does not have to make sense, because it just is what it is. I lose myself completely in that illusive space between night and the dawn when I reemerge from this quest with a finished illustration. I am always left with a myriad of questions. I paint in a desperate attempt to understand, not to be understood.”
Lynn Frink of Noank, CT exhibits his color infused abstract and non-representational paintings. Frink states “My canvases focus on colors, shapes, textures and moods---evolving as semi-abstracted figures, still lifes or non-representational art. My intention as an artist is to create aesthetically pleasing and meaningful work through determination and experimentation.”
Edeltraud Huller of New London, CT exhibits her intensely emotion-evoking non-representational paintings. Huller’s highly sophisticated paintings come from deep inside and are visual journeys into her life experiences form the past and into the present. It is difficult not to get drawn into the depth of her work.
Diane Englander of New York City exhibits her fabulous mixed media pieces of both visual and tactile textures. Englander states: “I work with formal means to create a place between discord and tranquility, a zone with a charged harmony that energizes as it also provides refuge. That search means I have to attack the prettiness of an initial surface, avoid balance, court darkness or stridency, invest a piece with conflict.”
