  • 4/29 The Benton Salon discusses the Guerrilla Girls

TODAY is THE SALON at THE BENTON.
"The Guerrilla Girls:  Art, Activism & the 'F' Word" is the topic: Is their message art? Is it politics? Or both?

5 to 5:30: Wine and light hors d'oeuvres
5:30 to 7: Panel discussion and conversation

In the words of the Guerrilla Girls, "We try to be different from the kind of political art that is angry and points to something that says 'This is bad.' That's preaching to the converted. We want to be subversive, to transform our audience, to confront them with some disarming statements, backed up by facts - and great visuals - and hopefully convert them."

Sharon Butler, painter, arts writer, and influential art blogger at Two Coats of Paint, and Mary Banas, Visiting Assistant Professor-in-Residence, Communication Design, UConn, are the panelists. Cora Lynn Deibler, Professor of Illustration and Department Head of Art and Art History at UConn, is the moderator.

Admission to the Salon is free. Donations are gratefully accepted.
Seating is limited. RSVPs are appreciated by Wednesday, April 27 to (860) 486-5084 or karen.sommer@uconn.edu
