    "Exploring Masculinity in Modern Culture: A Panel Discussion"

    The focus of this discussion will be on the diverse themes found in the Benton's exhibition Stark Imagery: The Male Nude in Art, which considers the issues of beauty, fetishization, masculinity, and the portrayal of male bodies in the arts and popular culture.

    The panelists are:

    Dr. Sherry Buckberrough, the Chair of the Art History Department at the University of Hartford. She is a specialist in Modern and Contemporary Art, with a concentration on women’s art, ecoart, modern design, and contemporary globalism.

    Dr. Thomas Long, Associate Professor-in-Residence in the School of Nursing at the University of Connecticut, where he teaches a course on Masculinity. His research area is health and humanities or medical humanities, where he studies cultural representations of the body, health, illness, and health professions.

    Dr. Daniel Silvermint, Assistant Professor, jointly appointed in Philosophy and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at the University of Connecticut, where he teaches a course on Masculinity. His academic interests include oppressive body image norms, invisible disabilities, understanding oppressive burdens in light of intersectionality, and the moral emotions of anger and shame.
