  • Changes to Storrs Final Exam Schedule

The University is launching an initiative to enhance the final exam schedule at the Storrs campus.  This enhancement has two purposes:  to display final exam schedules via the Student Administration system and to minimize final exam conflicts.  Section XII of the University by-laws specifically defines what constitutes a final exam conflict, otherwise known as a bunched final. It also stipulates that the University is required to resolve such conflicts by rescheduling exams when necessary. This process has involved many hours of staff time from the Dean of Students Office and causes considerable student frustration. The Registrar’s Office, in conjunction with UITS and the Dean of Students office, has begun working on a process to optimize the final exam schedule in order to minimize these conflicts.

The Registrar’s Office will be looking at student schedules beginning on day 11 of classes (the day after add/drop ends) in an attempt to take an earlier and a more student centric approach in creating an exam schedule that would limit the amount of conflicts.  Once an exam schedule designed to reduce conflicts is created, it will be made available via the Student Administration system for both students and faculty.  Thus, the exam schedule will be more settled and released with more accurate information and within the Student Administration System.  It will be our plan to have this available by March 1st.   Please be advised that in some cases final exams will not end up on the same class meeting day/time.
