    UConn Extension offers Sustainable Landscape Conference

    UConn Extension is sponsoring the “Sustainable Landscape Conference (New conference name, same great program!) – A Conference for the Landscape and Horticultural Professional.”  The conference will be held at the Lewis B. Rome Commons on the University of Connecticut Storrs campus on Thursday, March 17, 2016

    This all-day educational conference will address a wide range of topics focusing on plant production, sustainable landscape design, and retail marketing.  Topics were selected to appeal to professional landscapers and designers, nursery producers, and retail garden centers.  The conference will feature nationally recognized speakers from both industry and academia.

    The speakers featured at the conference will include:

    • Lisa Cowan, Principal and Lead Landscape Architect in Maine at Studioverde and Irene Brady Barber, founder of Greenscapes Design, who will be speaking on Ecological Design Approaches for Tough Urban Spaces.
    • Roy Diblik, Co-owner of Northwind Perennial Farm in Burlington, Wisconsin, who will be speaking on Perennial Plant Communities: “The Know Maintenance Approach”.
    • Richard Harper, UMass Extension Assistant Professor of Urban & Community Forestry, who will be presenting a talk entitled, ‘Do It Yourself’ Diagnostics.
    • Debra Knapke, “The Garden Sage”, garden designer, author, and lecturer at Columbus State, Ohio, who will be speaking on The Garden Aesthetic in a Time of Change.
    • Angela Palmer, Founder and Co-owner of Plants Nouveau LLC will discuss Are You Prepared for the Cultural Shift? Marketing Plants to Future Generations.

    Program and registration information, including online registration, is available at www.2016slc.uconn.edu.  A pre-registration fee of $100 per person is due by March 10th.  The fee is $110 per person if postmarked after March 10th or for walk-ins.  A registration discount of $20 per person if registering groups of 3 or more together is available.  Student registration is $25 with valid school ID.  Registration is limited and nonrefundable.  Please make checks payable to the University of Connecticut and send to Donna Ellis, University of Connecticut, Department of Plant Science and Landscape Architecture, 1376 Storrs Road, Unit 4067, Storrs, CT 06269-4067.

    Included with your registration: an information packet, lunch in the Rome Commons dining room, morning and afternoon snacks, parking (in an adjacent lot to the conference), and an opportunity to meet speakers and purchase autographed books from the Sustainable Landscape Conference bookstore. Four pesticide recertification credits will be offered for attendees from CT, RI, MA, ME, NH, and VT (pending state approval).  Additional CEU’s are available.
