The 49th Annual Art Department Faculty Exhibition presents art created by the permanent faculty in the Art and Art History Department of the School of Fine Arts at UConn. The faculty artists who are showing their latest work are Judith Thorpe, Edvin Yegir, Olu Oguibe, Alison Paul, John O'Donnell, Ray DiCapua, Pamela Bramble, Kathryn Meyers, Brad Guarino, Charles Hagen, Laurie Sloan, Frank Noelker, Jennifer Wheeler, and Blake Shirley.
Sacred Sisters: In Praise of Art & Poetry is a collaboration between visual artist Holly Trostle Brigham and award-winning poet Marilyn Nelson, whose works explore issues of gender and creativity, religion and history, and the connections between text and image. Brigham's paintings depict nuns from the 12th to the 19th centuries and from around the world, each of whom was an artist or writer. While Brigham's portraits imagine the sisters in the midst of their creative work, Nelson gives voice to each figure through a poem phrased as a prayer.
Both exhibitions are on view through December 20.
