  • 10/21 How loud is your iPod? Audiology Awareness Month

Happy Audiology Awareness month! The UConn Student Academy of Audiology (SAA) had their first of 3 tabling events on Wednesday, October 14th, in the Student Union. Our goal for these events is to educate the UConn community about how we hear and provide them with information about preventing hearing loss. We had a wonderful time and a very positive response from the student body and staff/faculty in the area!

Our friend Jolene (the mannequin and beautiful KEMAR) joined us. Jolene uses a sound level meter to simulate ear acoustics which allowed us to invite passerbys to place their headphones/earbuds from an iPod or other music device in Jolene's ear to measure the level they are listening at. When dangerous sound levels were measured we educated them about noise induced hearing loss, offered them some earplugs and candy and reminded them to "Practice Safe Sound"!

Want to find out if you're practicing safe sound?! Feel free to check out the table Wednesday Oct. 21st or 28th from 11am to 1pm. We will be at one of the tables in the Student Union 1st floor hallway between the Doug Berstein Game room and the Student Union Theatre. We hope to see you there!
