  • 10/9 Ensemble Origo: Music at a 1568 Wedding

On 22 February 1568, Duke Wilhelm V of Bavaria married Renata of Lorraine, and the ensuing celebration occupied the Munich court for nearly a week. The renowned composer Orlando di Lasso was charged with planning the music and theater for the occasion. His resulting compositions included madrigals and moresche—carnivalesque Neapolitan dance-songs that represent the speech of African slaves—performed by an ensemble of singers and instrumentalists playing sackbuts, recorders, violas da gamba, and lute. Come hear the talented musicians of Ensemble Origo bring this music back to life in a FREE concert at the Wadsworth Atheneum! Don't miss the European Gallery viewing and reception at 5pm, and the pre-concert lecture by Professor Eric Rice at 6:30pm.
