  • 10/7 Rosario Dawson at UConn

    Rosario Dawson has garnered praise for her numerous leading roles with today’s hottest film actors and directors, making her one of Hollywood’s most sought after leading ladies. At the age of 14, Dawson debuted in the critically acclaimed Kids and went on to gain accolades in roles such as ‘Mimi Marquez’ in the film RENT. Dawson was awarded the “Best Actress in a Motion Picture” Award at the 2009 NAACP Image Awards for her performance in Seven Pounds and the “Half-Life” Award at the 2008 Cine Vegas International Film Festival alongside Don Cheadle, Viggo Mortensen and Sam Rockwell. Other films that Rosario has starred in include Sin City: A Dame to Kill, Cesar Chavez, The Captive, Seven Pounds, Eagle Eye, Clerks 2, Grindhouse, Unstoppable, Zookeeper, and Trance.

    In addition to her numerous leading roles, Dawson also lends her time to a range of influential organizations including Voto Latino, which she co-founded in 2004, V-Day, The Lower Eastside Girls Club and the Environmental Media Association amongst others. Dawson was recently awarded the President’s Volunteer Service Award for her valuable contributions to the community and encouragement in getting others involved.

    This event is presented by the Puerto Rican/Latin American Cultural Center’s (PRLACC’s) annual Illuminating the Path series, which is the highlight of the Hispanic Heritage Month celebration at UConn.

    Tickets are available for UConn Storrs undergraduate students for FREE (1 per student ID) starting on 9.21.15 at 10AM and will be available until the day of the event. Tickets will be available starting 9.30 at 10AM online, by phone, or at the Jorgensen Box Office for the public, graduate students, staff, undergraduate students from other campuses, and faculty for $20 each. Tickets are subject to availability and will be $25 each at the door the night of the event.
