  • 8/13 Museum Activity: Ethnobotany Under Invasion

The Connecticut State Museum of Natural History, part of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at UConn, presents “Ethnobotany Under Invasion.” The program will be lead by Meigs Point Nature Center Staff on Thursday August 13, 10 am to 11:30 am, rain or shine.

Learn the ways Native people used plants for food, medicine, and technology. See what common plants were used for toothbrushes, stomachaches, tool making, healing wounds, and food. Then find out what non-native introduced plants and animals from around the world have invaded Connecticut and Long Island Sound. Next to habitat destruction, invasive species may be our biggest ecological problem. Discover why some are so successful and problematic. See firsthand what happens when invasive species are allowed to grow with no natural controls and learn about possible solutions to address the invasion.

The program fee is $10, $5 for Museum members. Hammonassett parking fees are not included in the program fee. Advance registration is required. All ages are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult. For registration information visit http://www.cac.uconn.edu/mnhcurrentcalendar.html or call 860.486.4460.
