  • 4/22 Benton Opening Reception Celebrates MFA Students

Celebrate with this year's MFA degree candidates at the opening reception for
The 2015 Master of Fine Arts Exhibition: A World Still in the Making

    Wednesday, April 22
    4 to 6:30 pm

    Refreshments
    Free admission

This exhibition represents the culminating experience of five MFA degree candidates in the University of Connecticut School of Fine Arts: Claire Coleman (printmaker and photographer), Elliott Katz (sculptor and photographer), Cynthia Melendez (photographer), Georgia Polkey (mixed media artist and painter), and Linda Smith (photographer and video artist). The exhibition title the students chose was inspired by Women Artists: The Creative Process in which author bell hooks ruminates on the basic blueprint for sustained creativity: that artists thrive when granted dedicated time and space for the creation of artwork, and thrive in communities of like-minded individuals. Furthermore, bell hooks declares artists must adopt an unflinching commitment to create despite the obstacles they encounter.

The MFA exhibition will remain up through May 10.
