  • Old Personal Mainframe Tapes

The University mainframe computer is scheduled to be shut-off on June 30, 2015. UConn has used the mainframe for over 30 years, which was at one time the only computing platform available to the university community for administrative, academic, research, and personal computing.

During this time, tapes (Volser #22XXXX) containing personal programs and files were left in the UITS Operation Center. These tapes will be destroyed as part of the Mainframe Decommissioning project.  If you are interested in retaining your old tapes please contact Paul Parciak at paul.parciak@uconn.edu  or 860-486-1425 to schedule a pickup. Once the mainframe has been shut down, a mechanism to access data will no longer exist at the University.

If these tapes were used to retain University data, it is the responsibility of the owner to comply with any State of Connecticut or University of Connecticut record retention requirements. See the record compliance schedules at: http://records.compliance.uconn.edu/record-retention-schedules/.

If you have questions, comments, or concerns about the decommissioning project, please contact Diana O’Donnell at diana.odonnell@uconn.edu.  For general information regarding the mainframe decommissioning project, visit mainframe.uconn.edu.

     Thank you
