Special Events and Receptions

  • 3/12 A Day With Joy Ladin

Joy Ladin will be visiting UConn on March 12, 2015, for a series of events that will take place throughout the day.

Students may join us in Class of '47 Room of the Library at 11am for an interactive session where she will be discussing and reading some material from her recent releases.

All students, faculty, staff, and community members are welcome to join us in Student Union Room 310 for a Meet & Greet informal get together (food is provided) where you'll get a chance to meet Joy in person and join in on the casual conversations.

Later that evening, Joy will be conducting a reading at UConn Co-Op Storrs Center at 4pm (Thursday March 12th).  Here is an excerpt from her book "which is why it feels like drowing in what we've both survived.  Ever the politician, I say I'll be your widow, smiling cheerfully as you die."

Here's some information about Joy Ladin:

Joy Ladin’s return to Yeshiva University as a woman after receiving tenure as a man made her the first openly transgender employee of an Orthodox Jewish institution and made page-3 news in the New York Post. Her memoir of gender transition, Through the Door of Life: A Jewish Journey Between Genders, was a finalist for a 2012 National Jewish Book Award, and winner of a Forward Fives award, and she was named to the 2012 Forward 50 list of influential or courageous American Jews. She is also the author of six books of poetry, including Psalms and Lambda Literary Award finalist Transmigration; her seventh collection,Impersonation, is due out in 2015.

Please RSVP if you will attend so that we can have accurate count for lunch.

We welcome Joy to UConn and are looking forward to a successful collaborative effort of events, and hope you all reach out and welcome Joy, and attend any of these events that you are able to!
