Research, Funding, and Awards

  • Undergraduate Awards (International Competition)

The University of Connecticut is an affiliate university for the Undergraduate Awards.  Please encourage your top students to apply for this prestigious award. The deadline is May 29, 2015, BUT there are limited registration spots and prospective applications should REGISTER to apply ASAP, even before their submissions are prepared.

    WHAT ARE THE UNDERGRADUATE AWARDS?

UA is a prestigious and international academic awards programme, which is wholly pan-discipline. It aims to celebrate and support the world’s brightest and most innovative undergraduate students by recognising their best coursework and projects. The programme has been under the patronage of President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, since February 2012.

The Undergraduate Awards are open to all penultimate and final year students on a degree course, and those who were enrolled last year. Two academic awards programmes are operated by UA – one that is open to all third-level institutes on the island of Ireland; and the other that is open to the top universities in the world. Students are chosen for their innovative approach to their subject area – creating world-class research to tackle some of the world’s toughest challenges. Each participant can submit up to three pieces of research or project work. All winners are published in the Undergraduate Journal, which is circulated internationally. Winners are also brought to Dublin, Ireland for a three-day summit where they will have the opportunity to mix with a truly international group of similarly minded, high-potential scholars.

    WHY SUBMIT?

Firstly, it’s extremely easy to do so, using the online form, which is available here. Participants submit their coursework, which they have previously submitted to their college for grading, so the work is already done. So, you’ve already done the work – now get the recognition!

Secondly, the prize. Winners are rewarded with having their work published in an international academic journal, as well as coming to Dublin, Ireland to receive their medal and partake in the UA Global Summit. Winners and Highly Commended students also gain access to the UA Alumni Network, after the Summit, where they interact with Winners and Highly Commended students from other years.
