12/18 Professional Development for Administrative Support Staff-It Takes Two!

Human Resources is pleased to offer professional development sessions for staff that provide administrative support for a supervisor/manager/executive leader. These two sessions will take place in the Student Union, room 104, Storrs campus. Each session is limited to 24 participants.  Join us for both or one—your choice!

9:00 am-Noon:  Managing Up (please register here)

One of the bi-products of the economic downturn is that many employees thought it was safer to stay below their boss’s radar so they could avoid being laid off.  This strategy is not only bad for job security, but for advancement as well.  Now more than ever it’s important to be noticed for your contributions. Every supervisor wants the same thing: a team who helps them achieve department goals.  In this workshop you will learn tips and techniques to become indispensable – and maybe even discover greater job satisfaction at the same time!

1:00 pm-4:00 pm:  Presenting to Your Boss (please register here)

Have you ever listened to someone talk and think “when will they get to their point!”? Now imagine your boss thinking that about you.  The goal of this workshop is to improve communication between you and your boss, to increase your value as a direct report, and to eliminate the frustration that comes from poor communication. We will focus on the key elements of effective communication and the ability to balance assertiveness and attentiveness.

Both sessions are facilitated by Barbara Roche of Barbara Roche & Associates.  Barbara is an executive coach, professor, and workshop leader who has helped people advance their careers. When not facilitating workshops, Barbara is a lecturer in the Management Communications Program at the Wharton School in Philadelphia. She is the author of Commit to Confidence: 30 Strategies to Help Women Step Up and Stand Out.  She received a Master’s degree in Psychology from Northeastern University in Boston, and is a proud member of Red Sox Nation.
