  • 11/4 Saxophone Quartet

The University of Connecticut Saxophone Quartet will be performing in concert at the von derMehden Recital Hall on November 4th at 8pm.  The quartet will be performing selections from Shubert, DesenclosMellits and Maslanka.  Shubert is a prolific Austrian composer of secular vocal works, symphonies, sacred music, operas, incidental music, and chamber and piano music.  He is considered one of the greatest composers of the Late Classic era and Early Romantic era and remains one of the most frequently performed 19th Century composers.  Desenclos is a French composer of modern classical music.  He is a self-described “romantic” and writes highly expressive music with a rigorous compositional technique.  Mellits is an American composer of the postminimalist stylistic trend.  His compositions are influenced by both minimalist and rock music.  Finally, Maslanka is an American composer famous for his wind ensemble pieces, although he also writes for choir, chamber music, and symphony orchestra.  His music is rhythmically intense and complex, yet also highly tonal and melodically-oriented.

The concert is directed by Greg Case, Instructor of Saxophone.  The von der Mehden Recital Hall is located at 875 Coventry Rd across from Mirror Lake on the UConn campus. Plenty of free parking is conveniently located across the street in Lot 1.
