“If art is therapy, if art is to inspire, if art is a weapon, if it is medicine used to heal soul wounds, if it makes one not feel alone in his or her visions, or if it serves as transportation to a higher self, then that is where I aspire to live every day.” –Rudy Gutierrez

DK Dyson is a contemporary musician and composer. She co-led the Sony/Epic band EYE & I. The group broke down racial and musical stereotypes with a sound that married heavy Rock and Funk with Jazz smarts. She has performed with Living Colour, Ornette Coleman and the Jazz Passengers, Mavis Staples and Debbie Harry. She scored the short film The Task, and has composed and performed theme songs for syndicated television. She has also flavored the dance companies of Bill T. Jones, Dianne McIntyre, and Ron Brown with her live vocalese stylings.

Dyson has conducted workshops and provided her vocals and recordings to healing, spiritual, and educational organizations such as NAALA on the Lakota Rosebud reservation, HYPE at Riker’s Island Prison and Def Dance Jam Workshop, a dance troupe featuring hearing impaired and physically challenged kids.

“Mother Music is the supreme taskmaster and she responds to me when I continuously evolve and bow at her feet” - DK Dyson
